Accor and the ‘city of love’
Accor Hotels has the prime position when it comes to the top location in the ‘city of love’ (la ville d’amour). The big accommodation group's two Paris properties are almost at the foot of the Eiffel Tower and command sensational views from some rooms, particularly at night when the lights are turned on the most-visited paid monument in the world. While the Pullman Paris Tour Eiffel is marginally closer, I plumped for the Mercure Paris Centre Tour Eiffel, which is 200 metres from the iconic 324-metre tall tower. And it proved to be a top choice as my junior suite had spellbinding views of the Eiffel, boosted by its added value ‘privilege room’ status. This includes, among other things, free WiFi and ADSL, coffee machine, free soft drinks in the mini bar, flat-screen TV, safety box, slippers and bathrobe. The hotel’s 405 refurbished, air-conditioned rooms include 93 privilege rooms, 12 junior suites and 10 rooms for the disabled. A total of 35 rooms on the 10th, 11th and 12h floors have views of the Eiffel Tower. Another highlight is the property’s outdoor garden area, where you can dine or have a drink on the terrace in a secluded, quiet spot. Its 15T restaurant - overlooking the garden – offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, while M’Shop, open 24 hours a day, and has snacks and beverages. The Mercure Paris Centre Tour Eiffel also has a lounge bar, six meeting rooms on the same floor, fitness room and car park. |
The upscale shopping centre – Beaugrenelle – is almost on the hotel door step. And if you want to explore the French capital, Bir-Hakeim and Champ-de-Mars Tour Eiffel stations are a mere 150 metres away, while the Paris Metro with a direct line to the Arc de Triumph is a four-minute walk.
