We travel Business Class to Singapore with British Airways
STKI – The Mature Traveller Motto
‘Spending The Kids Inheritance’- We worked to earn retirement money and for a while, it became the ‘thing’ to make sure we left money behind. Allowing the kids to enjoy spending what we had hard earned!
Therefore, our Health & Fitness Editor, Dr Ian Cocks decided to really spoil himself by flying Business Class with British Airways (BA) to a medical conference in Singapore.
Is the extra cost worth it?
Yes! Yes and Yes. The benefits begin when arriving for check-in at Kingsford Smith Airport, as the dedicated queue for the Business Class (BC) passengers is a dream and with no hassles that you sometimes experience with economy.
On clearing Customs and Immigration, you then proceed to the shared Qantas Lounge for a taste of what to expect on the flight. Superb comfortable surroundings, an exclusive wine and food service, free wi fi, the latest of newspapers and magazines. You also get last minute boarding, when your flight is ready.
Now the service really starts, as the specially trained cabin crew make your life as comfortable as possible. The seating is somewhat like an open luxury capsule, with a large TV monitor and enough controls to make you almost wish the flight was longer.
The quality of the food and beverage service would put many fine restaurants to shame, with a selection second to none. If you require a special diet, this can be arranged beforehand.
The in-flight entertainment offered is almost endless, the latest of movies, documentaries and news channels. A fine selection of all genres of music is also available.
Should you be on a longer or night time flight, the seat transforms into a very comfortable flat bed, which will give you the maximum chance of arriving fresh and lively.
Although the time in Singapore was very rewarding, one started thinking of what was waiting for my return leg.
The BA Lounge in Singapore (once again, shared with Qantas) is a testimony to what can be achieved with thoughtful planning, with plenty of space to either relax of to catch up on some work.
The overnight flight back to Sydney was completed with a minimum of fuss, actually spending most of the time sound asleep in my capsule. In fact it was a surprise when woken for a delicious breakfast and preparation for landing.
